Nothing really compares to physical face-to-face connection.
Collectively, we all lead busy lives. We have so much to balance; from work, relationships, adulting, exercising and eating right! We all have the ability to meditate on our own, but it can be really easy to let your practice slip when life gets hectic. And when we do sit (or lay) in meditation on our own, it can be difficult to stay with your practice, and really easy to let your mind fixate on all ever-running list of tasks we could be doing instead. Enter, group meditation.
By committing to a weekly, fortnightly or even monthly attendance at a group meditation you are not only being held accountable, you can also experience a room full of positive energy that is really infectious!
Susan Shumsky sums it up perfectly:
“The main objective of meditating in a group is to create an energy field where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.”
When people meditate together you can expand and intensify the experiences of meditating alone.
The Hive Collective runs weekly guided group meditations in Echuca, VIC.

Benefits of Meditation
Stabilise Stress Levels
Brain studies of regular meditators show they have lower cortisol levels in their brains.
A Positive Shift
Meditation improves sleep quality, fosters weight loss, and reduces fatigue by bringing about a positive shift in lifestyle.
Studies show that meditation practice improves the brain’s problem-solving and decision-making strategies.
Meditation promotes mental balance by controlling the “monkey mind” also known as the Default Mode Network (DMN). The DMN is responsible for what we are thinking about when we are not attending to anything specific.
Emotional Health & Wellbeing
When we meditate, we get a clear picture of our mind and become aware of the thoughts that drive our emotions and actions at the moment.
Studies have shown that meditation improves self-image and self-worth.
Improved Social Life
Participating in group sessions allows us to practice not only uninterrupted meditation but also form social connections, which in turn is an excellent boost for emotional health and overall wellness.
Frequently asked questions
I've never meditated, can I join?
Absolutely. I believe that everyone can learn and benefit from the practice of meditation. Guided meditations can often be a great starting point for your meditation journey because the mind is instructed on what it needs to do rather than distracting you with all of your thoughts.
What should I wear?
Comfortable loose fitting clothing is best, you will be laying down or sitting so anything that doesn’t pull on your body is recommended.
What should I bring?
Bring along a blanket and a pillow. Your body cools down as you meditate and slow your breathing and heart rate.
You may also wish to bring along your own yoga mat, meditation mat or cushion.
Last but not least, an open mind.
Do I have to sit cross-legged?
Absolutely not unless it is your preferred way. There are many positions you can meditate in. The best position is the one that is comfortable and the least distracting for you whilst keeping the spine fairly straight. This means you can be laying down on your back.
